Jagath Kaluarachchi

Bio Sketch
Dr. Jagath Kaluarachchi is the Interim Dean of the College of Engineering at Utah State University (USU) and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Dr. Kaluarachchi has a PhD in Environmental Sciences and Engineering from Virginia Tech. He has been active in the area of hydrology, water resources, and water quality for more than 25 years. He has published close to 80 journal publications in reputed scientific journals and more than 100 conference proceedings and presentations. He taught many short courses related to hydrology and water resources to proposal writing in Europe, Middle East and Asia. He was a visiting professor at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, Switzerland and Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. Dr. Kaluarachchi has conducted many international development projects related to water management in arid regions including Iraq, Ethiopia, Ghana, Sri Lanka, Palestine, Jordan among many other countries. Dr. Kaluarachchi’s accomplishments include Fellow recognition from both ASCE and EWRI, and Diplomate in Water Resources Engineering from the American Academy of Water Resources Engineering and numerous research awards from USU including the Robin’s award for Outstanding Faculty Researcher in 2007. Dr. Kaluarachchi has delivered invited presentations in many parts of the world and served in EWRI and ASCE in variety of roles including the chair of the watershed council for three years. He is a licensed professional engineer in the State of Utah. The USU College of Engineering has more than 3,000 students and 105 faculty across six departments. The college has seven ABET accredited program and enrollments are increasing on average around 2-3% over the past few years. The research expenditures are increasing and now at 18 million dollars. Dr. Kaluarachchi is very passionate on both undergraduate and graduate education and very much interested in undergraduate innovation and industry collaboration with active participation of minority and under-represented student groups. Dr. Kaluarachchi has graduated 18 PhD students and 16 MS students as the major advisor and few post‐doctoral researchers as well.
