Bio Sketch

Dr. Jagath Kaluarachchi is the Interim Dean of the College of Engineering at Utah State University (USU) and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Dr. Kaluarachchi has a PhD in Environmental Sciences and Engineering from Virginia Tech. He has been active in the area of hydrology, water resources, and water quality for the past 25 years. He has published over 75 journal publications in reputed scientific journals and more than 100 conference proceedings and presentations. He taught many short courses related to water resources, groundwater remediation, ground water hydrology to proposal writing in many parts of the world including Europe, Middle East and Asia. He was a visiting professor at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, Switzerland and Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden each for one year. Dr. Kaluarachchi has conducted many international development projects related to water management in semi‐arid to arid regions including Iraq, Ethiopia, Ghana, Sri Lanka, Palestine, Jordan and many other countries. He is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) and the Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI). Dr. Kaluarachchi’s accomplishments include Fellow recognition from both ASCE and EWRI, and Diplomate in Water Resources Engineering from the American Academy of Water Resources Engineering and numerous research awards from USU including the Robin’s award for Outstanding Faculty Researcher in 2007. Dr. Kaluarachchi has delivered invited presentations in many parts of the world and served in EWRI and ASCE in variety of roles including the chair of the watershed council for three years. He is a licensed professional engineer in the State of Utah. While Dr. Kaluarachchi has been an administrator for nearly seven years responsible for the research portfolio, graduate education and infrastructure for the college, he is always very passionate about graduate education. He has mentored more than 19 PhD students and 16 MS students as the major advisor and few post‐doctoral researchers as well.
